trans and queer youth uniting for racial and gender justice
When GSA youth leaders unite, we can push back against oppression in our schools and across the country!
What do you want to change?
Most GSAs would agree that their schools are not 100% safe and welcoming for ALL students. Maybe you hear anti-gay and anti-transgender slurs in hallways and classrooms. Maybe your administration suspends students for wearing gender-nonconforming clothing or shirts supporting LGBT rights, or even arrests students who defend themselves from bullying. What is preventing all students from being able to succeed and graduate in your community?
Who can make it happen?
Think about who has the power to give you what you want. If you're trying to get a non-discrimination policy that protects LGBT students, for example, you would want to target your school board because they're the people who have the power to pass a district policy. Build support from your community
Your petition will help you address issues that your community is facing, build support around a solution, and create change. Use your petition to explain to members of your community why your issue is important and to rally them behind you. While your petition alone won't win a campaign, it is an important tool to help show decision makers that you have community support.
